UTH-renal transplant team gets 1st prize for excellence

In October of 2018, the very 1st Kidney transplant was conducted in Zambia, at the University Teaching Hospital, UTH.

The success of the operation meant that the pressure and cost of referring patients abroad which costs the Zambian government 2 million dollars annually could now be eased as the operations would be able to be conducted in the country going forward.

This fell in line with the aspiration for Universal Health Coverage, leaving no one behind, of His Excellency Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, who has pitched the health of the citizens as a key economic investment.

For Breaking into new territories and exhibiting high levels of competence the University Teaching Hospital Renal Transplant Team under the Ministry of Health has been awarded 1st Prize for values, ethics, high performance and excellence, at the 2019 Public service day awards.
