Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe has disclosed that during this rainy season about 20 people have died due to lightning in some parts of the country.
The DMMU National Coordinator said this when China State Engineering Corporation Limited made a donation to the Unit towards the humanitarian services.
“So far this farming season, we have seen a good number of houses that have been affected and need the support such as providing temporal shelter and also additional support. These families at this critical time have been affected so they need the supply of food, water and tents,” he said.
Mr. Kabwe further disclosed that over 150 schools in some parts of the country have had their roofs blown off.
He added that about 40 health posts also need the support as their roofs have been blown off.
Mr. Kabwe indicated that all these need the full support of the government and that it is through the engagement of other partners that these challenges will be addressed.
