Lusaka Province Minister Hon Bowman Lusambo has assured the bereaved families of the Buseko accident that the government will fully support them during this trying moment.
Hon Lusambo said his ministry is working with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to ensure that the families are helped with transport, coffins and food staffs.
The Minister, who was accompanied by Minister in the office of the Vice President Hon Olipa Phiri, said this when he visited funeral houses for the Buseko Market accident victims in Matero Constituency.
The Lusaka Provincial Minister also said President Edgar Lungu is concerned with the continued cases of road traffic accidents in the country.
Hon Lusambo said this is the more reason why the Head of State directed the Road Transport and Safety Agency and the Zambia Police Service to intensify road patrols in order to avoid accidents.
The accident happened on 25th October, 2019 when a truck belonging to BHL driven by Elias Chikwenda lost control due to excessive speed as he was trying to avoid a truck that was reversing into Lumumba road at Puma filling near Buseko market.
The driver later on went to hit into a parked Corolla, Zesco Pole and finally into a Tarven where the deceased were watching a football match which is about 30 meters away from the road.
“His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has sent us to let you know that we are together during this trying moment. When a tragic of this magnitude happens, we have to stand for each other. The government is taking care of everything and we will support you with the needed items such as food, transport, coffins and others,” said Hon Lusambo.
“This accident should also remind us that we need to prepare ourselves in answering God’s call. We should always remember that one day, all of us will die and this is why it is important that all of us are prayerful.”
Hon Lusambo said President Lungu is deeply concerned with cases of road traffic accidents and that the government will continue on its path of ensuring that these accidents are reduced.
And Hon Phiri said the Government is there to help the people in need.
“We have come here because His Excellency President Edgar Lungu and Her Honor the Vice President Inonge Mutukwa Winangu have sent us. When this accident happened, it concerned us and this is why we have come here to help you. We are with you in prayers and can only wish you God’s comfort,” she said.
“Some of the deceased are bread winners and the only one who can comfort you is God. When tragic such as this one happens, we all have to look up to God.”
