General Education Minister Hon David Mabumba says his ministry is ready to conduct the 2019 national examinations.
Hon Mabumba says the government has put in place measures aimed at reducing cases of examination malpractices as it was during the 2018 national examinations.
Addressing journalists in Lusaka on Wednesday, Hon Mabumba said conducting an examination is a huge task that needs multi-sectorial approach.
“We require the presence of the police to man the examination papers, we require vehicles from other departments other than the Ministry of General Education just in case at the district where we are our District Education Board Secretary has no vehicle, we may require a vehicle from the Ministry of Health. So it’s a multi-sectorial approach,” he said.
He said the 2019 national examinations for Grades 7, 9, 12 and college of education will run from 17th October 2019 to 27th November 2019.
He also disclosed that his ministry has written to all Provincial Education Officers, District Education Board Secretaries and Head Teachers on the conduct, administration and management of 2019 national examinations.
He said the letter was written by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Jobbicks Kalumba.
“Part of the letter says the ministry appreciates the importance and the role of assessment in the provision of education and hence desires to conduct examinations at the highest level of prescribed standards in order to attain quality results. This calls for the efforts of all key players in the administration, management and conduct of examinations to ensure that no room is given to any form of examination malpractice,” he said.
“Officers from National level will be visiting your provinces during examination period to work with your local monitoring teams. Examination Council of Zambia will be sending funds to each province to supplement the resources for examinations monitoring.”
And Dr. Kalumba called on all Head teachers to allow pupils who have not finished paying school fees but have paid examination fees to sit for the exams.
He said this is a critical period for the leaners and that they should not be disturbed.
