HOME Affairs Minister Hon Stephen Kampyongo has addressed senior Muchinga Province police officers in Chinsali with a clarion call for complete loyalty to the Government of the day.
Speaking at a meeting held at the Newly Constructed and Commissioned Zambia Police Headquarters domiciled in Chinsali, The Minister told the officers that while they are required to observe the highest form of professionalism they ought be loyal.
Hon Kampyongo said that there is only one President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces at a time and that at the moment such a commander is His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
Hon Kampyongo said that officers who are not ready to pledge loyalty to President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his government are free to leave the service to pursue their other preferences.
Hon Kampyongo said that the fact that of all the New Government department buildings that have been under construction only the Police Provincial Command HQ is complete and currently occupied only shows the premium the President places on the sevice.
He also urged the police command to continue to encourage their junior officers to take advantage of the new government policy that calls for capacity building for in service police officers.
“Gone are the days when officers needed to have relations with the Command in order to be promoted and rise in rank stating but all you need right now as an officer is to be well capacitated with modern techniques and academics so as to receive promotions” Hon Kampyongo said.
And Muchinga Province Police Commissoner Eng Joel Njase has pledged to ensure that all officers in the Province are loyal to President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his working government.
Eng Njase said the officers have no reason to be disloyal as it is obvious that there has never been a President and government that has placed priority on the men and women in Uniform as the current government and leadership have done.
“Hon Minister please go and report to his Excellency the President on our behalf as a command that we will remain loyal to him and his government while we observe professionalism in the execution of our duties” Eng Njase said.
