Residents of Namboard Houses in Ndeke Township in Bwana Mkubwa Constituency, Ndola, have praised President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, for providing them with functional Sewer Lines for the first time in 33 years.
Stella Tembo who spoke on behalf of others says the last 33 years has not been easy for the Namboard Houses owners because without sanitation services, the residents have had no dignity.
Another resident, Phoebe Bukanga appealed to Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament, Jonas Chanda to assist the residents acquire Title Deeds for the houses.
The duo was speaking when Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, who is also Bwana Mkubwa Constituency Member of Parliament, Jonas Chanda, inspected the sewer line replacement works.
Dr. Chanda was accompanied by Kafubu Water and Sanitation company Director Engineering, Benard Phiri.
Sewer lines in the Namboard houses collapsed in 1987, rendering the flushable toilets dysfunctional and forcing residents to dig shallow pit latrines which have been a health and environmental hazard.
Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company embarked on sewer line replacement works at the Namboard houses 2 weeks ago when Dr Chanda visited the area, and the works have been completed one week ahead of schedule.
The sewer line replacement works have been internally funded by Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company at a cost of K35 thousand.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chanda says President Edgar Lungu’s desire is to see that everyone has access to clean and safe water and adequate sanitation services.
Dr. Chanda has also assured the Namboard Houses residents that he will work closely with his counterparts from Lands and Works and Supply to ensure that the people occupying the Namboard Houses have Title Deeds.
