Hon. Malanji appoints Honorary Consul in Nepal

FOREIGN Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji, has appointed Engineer Desh Bandhu Basnet, as Honorary Consul of Zambia in Nepal.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to India with Extra Accreditation to Nepal Judith Kapijimpanga said the position of Honorary Consul does not come with a salary as it is for citizens of the host country, where they live but are designated by a foreign government to look after the affairs of its citizens.

“I have the honour to present to you instruments of power, at Honorary Consul level, following your appointment as Honorary Consul of Zambia in Nepal conferred upon you by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Honourable Joseph Malanji, MP, after wide scrutiny,” Mrs. Kapijimpanga said.

She said Zambia has the Victoria Falls, one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, while Nepal has Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, which can help the two countries to benchmark effectively in tourism to spur economic growth and increase trade volumes.

Mrs. Kapijimpanga said King Mahendra, then King of Nepal, visited Zambia from 8th to 10th September 1970 to attend the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) adding that there is need to revive high level visits.

And newly appointed Honorary Consul of Zambia in Nepal Engineer Desh Bandhu Basnet has pledged to install the Zambian flag on Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, as a sign of friendly relations between Zambia and Nepal.

Mr. Basnet said in his capacity as Executive Member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he will push for the signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Zambia Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) to enhance trade relations between the two countries.
