Lusaka City Council (LCC) has bemoaned the increase in the number number of street lights being vandalized around the City.

In a statement, LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Thelma Mbewe said the Vice is rampant along Mungwi Road and Madras Area of Kamwala where unscrupulous people are stealing solar panels and fittings from the street lights

She said it is regrettable that some people are vandalising such development that is meant to benefit the citizenry and which should also be guarded by everyone.

“These acts are a drawback on the road infrastructure development the City has recently seen,” She said.

She added that the unfortunate situation is leading to the street lights not working to their full capacity.

Mrs Mbewe has since warned people with such ill motives that they risk prosecutions for vandalising public property.

She also appealed to the general public to be alert and promptly report such incidences to the Police or Council.
