Lusaka central member of parliament Hon.Margaret Mwanakatwe says she will continue to support cooperatives rearing village chickens in her constituency.
Speaking when she donated chicken feed to all the 33 cooperatives in her constituency, Hon.Mwanakatwe said village chicken rearing is a viable business that is capable of alleviating poverty in communities.
Hon.Mwanakatwe said the donation of the feed to cooperatives is to help cushion the cost of rearing the village chickens.
“Today we are here to continue the program which we started a few months ago where we supported cooperatives in my constituency with village chickens, we also supported them with some feed in the beginning but they are supposed to get stronger and stronger so that they can buy their feed, as you know times are difficult right now and today my 33 cooperatives that have been empowered are going to be supported with the feed for their chickens,” Hon.Mwanakatwe said.
And Hon.Mwanakatwe Expressed happiness that since the program started the growth rate of the chickens is impressive.
“The cooperatives have fared well, and I want to assure them that we will continue to support them, its our way of ensuring that they get stronger,” She said.
Hon.Mwanakatwe also encouraged the cooperatives to diversify by also venturing into other livestock rearing such as pigs and goats.
