Neymar’s contract expires in 2022 and he continues to stall over signing an extension despite insisting he is keen to commit his future, while talk of a Barcelona transfer rumbles on.
Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly told Neymar he has two weeks to accept their latest contract offer amid speculation linking him with a return to Barcelona.
The Brazilian forward, 29, is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal despite it being on the table for weeks, with PSG now getting increasingly nervous he could perform a shock U-turn.
Neymar has stressed he has every intention of committing his future to the club, telling TNT Sports Brazil this week: “I don’t think this is even a topic any more; I obviously feel very comfortable, at home at PSG.”
But club chiefs are keen to get the deal finalised before the first leg of PSG’s Champions League semi-final with Manchester City on April 28 and are now putting pressure on Neymar to agree to the terms.
Spanish publication SPORT report that PSG want to put the Barcelona rumours to bed and know that will only be possible once Neymar is tied down for the long term.
He looks set to extend his time at the Parc des Princes until 2027, which would take him beyond his 35th birthday, though there are still lingering doubts over whether he is hopeful of linking back up with Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp.
Barcelona are in no real position to finance a move this summer, but PSG would be left in a compromising position if Neymar does not sign a new deal before the summer, as he enters the final year of his current contract.
PSG are also eager to eliminate as many distractions as possible ahead of their crucial tie with City.
The club’s owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi remains confident the deal will be done.
He told Sky Sports: “I think that next year Neymar will be at Paris Saint-Germain and he will stay here for a long time.”
PSG are also working hard to convince Kylian Mbappe to sign a new deal, and are reportedly preparing to offer him a bumper deal worth €30m (£26.1m) per year.
L’Equipe report (via GFFN ) that Mbappe is still biding his time over a decision, though has warmed to the idea of extending his stay at the club.
