Republican Vice-President Her Honour Mrs Inonge Mutukwa Wina has urged leaders in the country to continue emulating the visionary leadership of former president Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.
Mrs Wina said Dr. Kaunda exhibited exemplary leadership to Zambia that aimed at developing the country and the current crop of leadership should be observing him.
Dr. Kaunda ruled the nation for 27 years from 1964 after gaining independence to 1991 when the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) took over power under the leadership of Frederick Chiluba.
And Mrs. Wina said being a junior freedom fighter, she was reminded of the selfless amd visionary leadership that Dr. Kaunda provided to the nation in the pre and post independence eras.
Her Honour the Vice President said this when she visited Dr Kaunda at his residence in State Lodge area yesterday to wish him a happy 97th birthday.
She said current leaders should continue to follow his footsteps of humility and caring for Zambian the Zambian people on the spirit of One Zamhia One Nation.
Mrs. Wina said Dr Kaunda’s legacy was too huge to fit in by the current crop of leadership but that learning from his humility and the love he had for Zambians should always be key.
The Vice-President later presented flowers and cashew nuts to Dr. Kaunda to remind him of his vision of creating an industrious Zambia.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kaunda thanked the Vice-President for the love and care shown to him on his birthday and has since blessed Zambia and all of its leaders.
