Energy Minister Hon Mathew Nkhuwa says all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and contracted Government suppliers importing petroleum products into Zambia are required to announce 50 percent of their import volumes through the Secretariat for equitable distribution to all local transporters.
Hon Nkhuwa says this is a deliberate policy by the Government of the Republic of Zambia to empower local transporters and grow the capacity of the petroleum transportation subsector.
In a statement today, he says in view of this, all contracted Government Suppliers and OMCs importing petroleum products into Zambia are expected to support this empowerment programme initiated by the Government.
Hon Nkhuwa says the importers of petroleum products are urged to engage the Secretariat through the Office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy.

The Secretariat currently has representation from the following institutions,TAZAMA Pipelines Limited, Energy Regulation Board, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
Others are Indeni Petroleum Refinery Limited, Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia, Zambia Union of Tanker Drivers and Allied, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Transport and Communication.
The Secretariat is mandated to ensure nsure transparency and efficiency in nomination of petroleum products.

with Ministry of Energy among others.
