The Women Community Response Project has called on political parties to abide by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) directive concerning political campaigns in order to protect the lives of members of the public against the Covid 19 pandemic.
Executive Director Besa Katongo said the organization has noted that politicians are championing their agenda of forming government instead of protecting the lives of the Zambian people first.
She stated that Covid 19 cases are escalating to alarming levels on a daily basis and members of the public will be put at risk if politicians go against the directive by ECZ and hold huge gatherings in order to sell their party manifestos.
Mrs. Katongo said members of the public have already decided which political party they intend to usher into office hence politicians need contribute by safeguarding the lives of the people from Covid 19 by following the set directive by ECZ.
“Political parties must follow the directive in order to protect the lives of the majority Zambians from the Covid 19 that are eligible to vote in the 12th August general elections,” she said.
