On Tuesday, our country recorded the highest number of deaths due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Health, 53 people died of Covid-19 as announced on Tuesday, the highest mortality on a single day since the pandemic touched our soils in March 2020.

This is a critical stage as we deal with the pandemic, as more infections means that our health system is constrained.

We must, together, push against this tide and avoid a situation where our health system will not be able to cope with the numbers.

Our health workers have done a remarkable job during this pandemic, and they continue to fight at a great risk to their own lives. And I would like to sincerely thank them for their sacrifice. Let us support them by strictly adhering to the Covid-19 health guidelines.

My fellow citizens, we may be living in our darkest hour in as far as this pandemic is concerned, especially when we put faces and names to the statistics, but we must not despair.

We must not be filled with fear as a nation, but courage to face the world’s number one enemy.

    Together we shall overcome.
